Industrial Tour- Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link Project

The Department of Civil Engineering organized an industrial tour from 17 to 21 September 2025 for 57 Third Year students. The tour was coordinated by Dr. Suyog U. Dhote and accompanied by Prof. Sujin S. George and Mr. Nilesh Dighekar. Its objective was to provide students exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects and bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.

At the site, students were welcomed by Mr. Rajesh Yennawar, Project Manager, and guided to Mr. K. Ravi, Assistant General Manager (AGM), AFCONS), who delivered a presentation on the execution of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link Project.

The Mumbai–Pune Expressway and NH-4 converge near Khalapur Toll Plaza and diverge near the Khandala exit. The Adoshi Tunnel to Khandala exit section, a 6-lane stretch, currently carries the traffic load of 10 lanes, leading to congestion and frequent landslides. This reduces travel speed and time efficiency while increasing accident rates.

The existing 19 km stretch from Khopoli exit to Sinhgad Institute will be reduced to 13.3 km with the completion of the missing link, shortening the Expressway by 6 km and saving 20–25 minutes of travel time. A key highlight is the cable-stayed bridge, designed with advanced machinery, innovative planning, and durable material selection to ensure safety and precision.

The visit enhanced students’ knowledge of traffic management in hilly terrains, structural design, and modern construction technologies. It successfully connected classroom learning with industrial practices, making it an insightful and career-enriching experience
