Guest Lecture on “Transformers and Large Language Models”

The Department of Industrial IoT organized an insightful guest lecture on “Transformers and Large Language Models” on 26th September 2025 from 02:15 PM to 4:15 PM in the S-06 classroom for 5th semester students. The session aimed to introduce students to recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), focusing on the architecture, capabilities, and applications of Large Language Models (LLMs). A total of 62 students attended the lecture.

The guest speaker, Dr. Neha Kasture, Assistant Professor at IIIT Nagpur, is a respected academician with expertise in Speech Processing, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. M. Shriraghavan, Head of the Department, who also felicitated the guest.

Dr. Kasture delivered a highly engaging lecture covering the fundamentals of transformers, the evolution of NLP techniques, the working of models like BERT and ChatGPT, and the real-world applications of Generative AI. She also highlighted the growing industrial relevance of LLMs and exciting research opportunities in the field.

The session sparked enthusiasm among students, encouraging them to explore AI beyond the classroom. It was successfully coordinated by Prof. Rajeshwari Shinde and concluded with a vote of thanks and presentation of a memento to the guest speaker.

The lecture proved to be both informative and inspiring, reinforcing the department’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge knowledge and industry-aligned learning.
