Basics of Programming Workshop

The Department of Computer Engineering, in collaboration with the ACM Student Chapter, successfully conducted a Basics of Programming Workshop on 2nd October 2024. The session lasted for 3 hours and was facilitated by Parth Dange (Coordinator), Mayur Aglawe (Co-Coordinator), and Gargi Gundawar (Member). The event was successfully conducted under the guidance of Dr. Pallavi Wankhede, ACM Officer.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants to fundamental programming concepts, with a special focus on the C programming language, pseudocode, algorithms, and flowcharts. The agenda included an overview of programming and its significance, syntax and operations in C, understanding pseudocode and algorithms, and creating flowcharts to represent problem-solving approaches. The session also featured interactive quizzes, Q&A discussions, and doubt-clearing activities, encouraging active participation.

A highlight of the workshop was the Decode Derby competition, designed to reinforce concepts through engaging, team-based challenges. Students formed groups of 2–3 and participated in tasks such as writing pseudocode, designing flowcharts, and coding simple C programs under time limits. Points were awarded based on accuracy, speed, and creativity, which promoted both collaboration and critical thinking.

The workshop received positive feedback, with participants appreciating the clarity of explanations, structured content, and interactive approach. Many suggested including more hands-on coding sessions in future workshops.

The event successfully met its objectives, equipping participants with essential programming knowledge and practical problem-solving skills, while fostering enthusiasm and teamwork.
