Guest Lecture on Network Security Fundamentals

The Department of Cyber Security organized a guest lecture on Network Security Fundamentals for second-year B.Tech students on April 4th, 2025, from 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM in BS-14. The session, coordinated by Prof. S.J. Janbandhu, aimed to provide students with essential knowledge of network security, including common cyber threats, firewalls, encryption, and advanced solutions like Palo Alto Networks' firewalls and VPNs.
The objective of the lecture was to give students a solid foundation in network security, preparing them for further studies in cybersecurity. The session was led by Mr. Manish Ganvir, a Network Security and Automation Engineer, who shared his expertise on key concepts and practical solutions in the field.
Mr. Ganvir covered basic network security concepts, such as common cyber threats like DoS, MITM, and phishing attacks, and emphasized the importance of firewalls, encryption, and secure protocols to protect data and networks from unauthorized access. He also introduced advanced security solutions from Palo Alto Networks, explaining features like application-level inspection, threat intelligence, and network segmentation. Additionally, Mr. Ganvir discussed how Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) ensure secure remote access.
The session included real-world case studies that demonstrated the effectiveness of these advanced solutions in defending against cyber threats. The event concluded with a Q&A, allowing students to engage with the material and clarify their doubts.
This guest lecture provided valuable insights into both foundational and advanced network security practices, contributing significantly to the students' knowledge and future studies in cybersecurity.
