The Department of Industrial IoT organized an industry visit for third-year, sixth semester students to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam from February 26th to March 1st, 2025. A total of 36 students, two faculty members, and one non-teaching staff member attended the visit. The aim of the visit was to provide insights into the technologies used by BHEL and HSL.
At BHEL, students gained valuable insights into the manufacturing processes of electrical equipment and turbines, learning about the company’s contributions to the energy sector. At HSL, the tour offered an understanding of the shipbuilding process and the technology involved in constructing large vessels and submarines. Students also learned about the technological capabilities for designing and constructing naval/commercial vessels, as well as the repair of conventional submarines and ships.
The students also visited the Aircraft & Submarine Museum, which provided a glimpse into India’s defense history, featuring decommissioned aircraft and submarines. The visit extended beyond the industrial sites, with the group also visiting Araku Valley, where they explored coffee plantations and organic farming practices amidst stunning landscapes. They also explored the fascinating limestone formations of Borra Caves and learned about their geological significance. The students enjoyed several sightseeing locations, including Kailasagiri, Yarada Beach, Rushikonda Beach, and RK Beach.
The visit proved to be a valuable learning experience for all the students. The industry visit was organized and coordinated by Dr. Amol W.
