ACM Student Chapter Industrial Visit Report

The ACM Student Chapter of the Computer Engineering Department organized an industrial visit to Persistent Systems, Nagpur, on 15 February 2025  to gain industry exposure and insights into GenAI in programming. A group of 20 students, accompanied by Dr. Pallavi Wankhede and Prof. Yogita Nikhare, participated in this educational experience.

The first session, "The Impact of GenAI on Programming Courses", was held for faculty from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, conducted by Prof. Viraj Kumar (IISc). He discussed integrating GenAI tools into programming education, emphasizing the importance of evaluating AI-generated code and asking clarifying questions to enhance learning outcomes.

The second session, "Writing Code Effectively with GenAI Tools", from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, was tailored for students and also led by Prof. Viraj Kumar. It provided practical exposure to GenAI tools through hands-on activities, covering topics such as understanding AI tool strengths and weaknesses and best practices for AI-assisted coding.

The visit offered valuable learning experiences, with faculty gaining insights for modernizing their teaching methods and students exploring practical applications of GenAI tools. Overall, it was a rewarding and insightful experience for all participants.
