Hands-on Workshop on Analog Electronics with NgSpice

A hands-on workshop on Analog Electronics with NgSpice was conducted for second- and third-year students of the Electronics and Telecommunication Department at SVPCET, Nagpur. Mr. Ajinkya Kharalkar (BTech & MTech IITB), a PhD scholar from IIT Bombay, led the workshop, which aimed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of Analog Electronics, Electronics Devices and Circuits (EDC), and practical experience simulating circuits using NgSpice software.
The workshop took place over four sessions, held on January 16, 17, 18, and 19, 2025, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. It began with an overview of analog and digital electronics, introducing participants to the Dhruva Chip and its significance in analog electronics. Theoretical concepts such as Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Laws, and basic circuit analysis were discussed, along with key components like resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Participants explored DC and AC circuit analysis, transient and steady-state responses, and Bode plots as a graphical representation of frequency response.
NgSpice, an open-source circuit simulator, was introduced, highlighting its importance in circuit design and analysis. Students performed simulations of inverting and non-inverting amplifier circuits using BJT and MOSFET, gaining hands-on experience with the software. Out of the 28 registered students, 12 completed the final session, with assignments given to evaluate their understanding.
Participants gave positive feedback, appreciating the workshop’s interactive approach and the valuable practical experience it provided in circuit simulation.
The activity was coordinated by M. N. Kapse, Coordinator of the CoE R Lab, with co-coordination by Prof. N. Faizee, Member of the CoE R Lab, and Prof. Dr. M. Kulkarni from the E&TC Department.
