Webinar on “National Education Policy 2020 for Higher Technical Institutes”

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a Webinar on “National Education Policy 2020 for Higher Technical Institutes” on 28th July 2023 over online platform using Google Meet by Dr. Nitin Dhote, Coordinator IQAC of the institute for students, faculty members , parents, alumni and industry persons.
Dr. Ghansham Boob, member , IQAC opens the Webinar with a Welcome speech and briefed about this new NEP 2020.
Dr. Nitin Dhote in his presentation, highlighted important highlights of the NEP 2020 as below -
1) NEP 2020 has been formulated after an unprecedented process of consultation that involved nearly over 2 lakh suggestions from 2.5 lakhs Gram Panchayats, 6600 Blocks, 6000 ULBs, 676 Districts.
2) The Union Cabinet finally approved a new National Education Policy on July 29, 2020 after a 34-year gap. is For India it is the 3rd education policy after 1968 and 1986. July 24-29 , 2023 is celebrated as NEP 2020 awareness week across the India.
3) Big changes are there in School Education, Higher Education as well as in Technical Education according to the New Education Policy (NEP). Multiple entry and exit system is introduced in Higher Education.
4) UG education of 4 years with multiple exit options and appropriate certification within this Multiple Entry and Exit Points with appropriate Certification.
5) GER in higher education to be raised to 50 % by 2035
6) Academic Bank of Credits to be established to facilitate Transfer of Credits
7) Broad based, multi-disciplinary, holistic Under Graduate education with flexible curricula, creative combinations of subjects
8) Online education, and Open Distance Learning (ODL) to be promoted
9) Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities (MERUs) to be set up, at par with IITs, IIMs.
10) All professional education will be an integral part of the higher education system.
11) Affiliation of colleges is to be phased out in 15 years and a stage-wise mechanism is to be established for granting graded autonomy to colleges.
12) He also highlighted various problems faced by Higher Education Institutes.
13) Accordingly he highlighted various changes suggested in NEP 2020 to overcome the problems faced by HEI.
14) The National Testing Agency may be given the additional responsibility of conducting entrance examinations for admissions to universities across the country, in addition to the JEE Main and NEET.
15) Foreign universities can now set up campuses in India.
16) The fees of both private and public universities will be fixed.
17) He highlighted upon various Legislative bodies to be formed under NEP 2020
18) He also focused upon various challenges in implementing NEP 2020.
After his presentation, Participants asked various queries / questions about NEP 2020 and he replied to them accordingly.
