Expert Guest Lecture on “Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials”

The Department of Engineering, Science and Humanities organized an expert guest lecture on “Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials” on 01 October 2026, organized and coordinated by Dr. Manish Jachak, Associate Professor. The programme was attended by 190 B.Tech. First Year students and was organized to provide students with an understanding of the rapidly developing field of nanotechnology and advanced materials and to highlight their significance in modern science, engineering, industrial applications, and sustainable development.

The invited expert, Dr. Wasudev Gurnule, shared his academic expertise and delivered an informative and engaging lecture covering important concepts and applications of nanotechnology and advanced materials. He also discussed small-scale research work that students could undertake, encouraging them to explore research-oriented topics and develop innovative ideas through practical academic activities.

The session helped students connect theoretical concepts with practical applications and understand the potential of advanced materials in addressing contemporary technological and environmental challenges. The knowledge gained through the session is particularly relevant to the Engineering Chemistry course, where students study materials, their properties, applications, and emerging technological developments.

The lecture addressed the Course Outcomes (COs): CO1 – Develop innovative ideas for the use of advanced materials in sustainable development; and CO2 – Evaluate the role of nanotechnology in industrial applications such as energy storage, medicine, electronics, and environmental remediation.

It also contributed to the Programme Outcomes (POs): PO1 – Engineering Knowledge, PO5 – Engineering Tool Usage, PO6 – The Engineer and the World, and PO11 – Life Long Learning.

The programme further supported the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

Overall, the session provided students with valuable exposure to emerging technologies, research possibilities, sustainable solutions, and the wider role of engineering in society. The programme was organized under the leadership of the HOD, Dr. Smita Tolani.
