Industrial Visit to Study the Construction and Functioning of an Elevated Water Tank

The Department of Civil Engineering, St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering & Technology, Nagpur, organized a site visit for the students of II Year Civil Engineering on 08 September 2026. The visit focused on understanding the construction and functioning of an Elevated Water Tank (EWT) and the associated pipe distribution network at Pipla, Kharsoli Rd, Nagpur. The students observed various components of the elevated tank, including the staging system, tank structure, inlet and outlet arrangements, overflow and scour pipes, and other essential structural and hydraulic components.

The students were also introduced to the water distribution network, including the layout of pipelines, pipe joints, valves, flow control arrangements, and methods adopted for supplying water to different areas. The site personnel explained the practical aspects of construction, installation, maintenance, safety measures, and quality control. It also enhanced their understanding of the importance of proper design, construction, and maintenance of water supply infrastructure.

Overall, the site visit was informative and beneficial, providing students with practical knowledge and a better understanding of real-world civil engineering practices.

The visit was coordinated by Prof. Yogesh S. Lanjewar and Dr. Satish D. Kene. A total of 64 students participated in the visit under the guidance of Prof. Kusum S. Balani.
