Industrial Exposure Visit to Kaprecon Sleeper Works Pvt. Ltd.
The Department of Civil Engineering organized an industrial visit to Kaprecon Sleeper Works Pvt. Ltd., located in the industrial area of Butibori near Nagpur, for Third Year students on Monday, September 7, 2026 to understand the manufacturing process of railway sleepers. The company is engaged in the production of prestressed concrete railway sleepers used in railway tracks. The objectives were to understand the manufacturing process of prestressed concrete sleepers, materials used in railway sleeper production, prestressing techniques used in concrete members, quality control and testing procedures and industrial working environment and safety practices. The highlight of this plant is steam curing. The sleepers are cured under controlled conditions to gain the required strength.
The visit also provided valuable knowledge about quality control and testing of railway sleepers. The industry professionals explained the importance of inspection and testing at different stages of manufacturing to ensure that the finished products satisfy the required specifications and performance standards. Students also gained awareness about proper handling, and transportation of the manufactured sleepers. Along with technical knowledge, the visit highlighted the importance of industrial safety, discipline, teamwork, and adherence to standard operating procedures while working in a manufacturing environment.
Total 55 students of B. Tech Third Year were present for the industrial visit. The industrial visit to Kaprecon Sleeper Works Pvt. Ltd. was highly informative and beneficial for the students. The visit provided valuable exposure to real-world industrial practices and enhanced the students' understanding of railway infrastructure components.
The visit was coordinated by Dr. Suyog U. Dhote and accompanied by Prof. Yashshree Dhale, and Mr. Nilesh Dighekar.
