Educational Visit of First-Year CSBS Students to Jeev Jantu Farm under the Universal Human Values (UHV) Course
The Department of Engineering, Sciences and Humanities organized an educational visit to Jeev Jantu Farm on 25th April 2026 for 57 students of B.Tech Second Semester, CSBS Branch. The visit was planned as part of their course on Universal Human Values, with the objective of promoting awareness about sustainable living, eco-friendly practices, and environmental conservation. It provided students with valuable hands-on exposure to traditional and sustainable methods that support harmony with nature.
During the visit, students learned about waste segregation and the importance of separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste for effective waste management. A practical demonstration on aerobic composting helped them understand how organic and kitchen waste can be naturally converted into nutrient-rich compost.
The farm also showcased innovative sustainable practices, including a natural refrigerator that functions without electricity. Students actively participated in the preparation of bio-enzymes from fruit peels and organic materials, which serve as natural cleaning agents. They were also introduced to chemical-free, eco-friendly body cleansers.
A session on mud-building techniques highlighted sustainable construction methods using natural resources. Students further explored water conservation practices and understood the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations.
The visit included a healthy traditional meal prepared using millets, emphasizing nutritious and sustainable food habits. Students cleaned their plates using ash as an eco-friendly alternative to chemical detergents. Additionally, they engaged in pulse identification activities and learned about native plantations and preserving indigenous plant species.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Ganga Pal under the leadership of Dr. Smita Tolani. Prof. Ganga Pal, Prof. Namrata Gore, and Prof. Atish Gaur accompanied the students.
Overall, the visit was highly informative, interactive, and inspiring, encouraging students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
