Road Safety and Defensive Driving Awareness Program

The Career Development Centre and the Departments of Engineering, Sciences & Humanities jointly organized a Road Safety and Defensive Driving Awareness Program in collaboration with the Regional Transport Office, Nagpur (East) MH-49 on 27 January 2026. The theme of the program was “Road Safety Awareness and Defensive Driving,” and more than 500 first-year B.Tech students participated enthusiastically.

Institute Director, Fr. Dr. Paul Chandrankunnel, welcomed the dignitaries. The program was graced by Mr. Avinash Raut, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Nagpur (East), who guided the students, while Mr. Rahul Bhagat, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, was present as the Guest of Honour.

Mr. Suraj Ubale, Motor Vehicle Inspector, and Mr. Akash Walde, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector, served as the key speakers. They explained the concept of the 4 E’s of Road Safety, Education, Engineering, Enforcement, and Emergency Care in a simple and comprehensive manner.

The speakers elaborated that learning traffic rules and safe driving habits constitutes Education; safe road and vehicle design represents Engineering; strict implementation of traffic laws ensures Enforcement; and timely medical assistance after accidents falls under Emergency Care. Through real-life examples, they effectively demonstrated how accidents can be prevented by practicing defensive driving.

Special emphasis was laid on following speed limits, wearing helmets and seat belts, avoiding drunken driving, and driving responsibly. The interactive sessions helped build awareness and confidence among students regarding road safety, with active participation in the question-and-answer session.

The program was successfully coordinated by Dr. Kishor Borakhade, along with CDC team members Sonia Fransis, Dr. Siju Samuel, and Dr. Rohan Trivedi, and Dr. Smita Tolani, HOD ES&H, along with ES&H faculty members and staff.
