Guest Lecture on “Semantic Communication”

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Semantic Communication” for B.Tech VI Semester E&TC students on 13 March 2026, as part of the advanced curriculum to introduce emerging trends in wireless communication. The session was delivered by Dr. Prabhat Sharma, Associate Professor at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur.

During the lecture, Dr. Sharma explained the fundamental concept of semantic communication, emphasizing how it differs from conventional communication systems that focus on transmitting bits rather than meaning. He highlighted the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in enabling semantic-aware transmission and discussed potential applications in future 5G and 6G networks, along with key implementation challenges.

The session provided valuable insights into current research directions and motivated students to explore advanced topics in next-generation communication technologies. It was highly interactive, with students actively participating and raising questions related to practical implementation and research opportunities in this emerging field.
