Awareness Workshop on “High performance Computing” under AICTE Sankalp

Department of Information Technology organized an Awareness Workshop on “High-performance Computing” under AICTE Sankalp on 25th September 2024 for the third Semester students, from 2:15 PM to 4.15 PM. Dr.Pradnya Borkar, CDAC Master Trainer and Senior Professor at Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Nagpur delivered the Session.

The session began by explaining the concept of Multi-core processor and their working, how they are installed, and what the different components of multi-core processors are. The Session Expert highlighted various applications where multi-core processors are making a significant impact. When data is in large amounts multi-core saves it fast and processes the output quickly. In addition to CPUs, the Session Expert upon the role of GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) in parallel computing. GPUs were originally designed for graphics rendering, but their parallel architecture has made them well-suited for certain types of computational tasks. She also explained how GPUs can be used to accelerate applications in areas such as machine learning, scientific computing, and data analysis. Session Expert also discussed the significance of India's first supercomputer, PARAM AIRAWAT. This landmark achievement showcased India's capabilities in high-performance computing and opened up new avenues for research and development in various fields. Overall the session covered the concepts of HPC related to Computer Architecture and Organization course.

The Program was coordinated by Prof. Shabana Pathan.
