The Department of Mechanical Engineering organised an expert consultation meeting on the modernization of the workshop on 18 July 2024, Thursday, from 2:00 to 4:30 PM.

The meeting was attended by the following delegates from CEAT Tyres, MIDC Buttibori: Mr. Harvinder Singh Tomar, Sr. Manager, Mechanical Maintenance; Mr. Sanjeev Gour, Head of EHS, Environment, Health & Safety; and Mr. Praveen Singh, Head of Academy, Business Excellence & IE.

Also present on behalf of the SVPCET Management and the ME Department were Fr. Paul Chandrankunnel, Director; Dr. Vijay Wadhai, Principal; Prof. R.B. Gowardhan, Mentor; Dr. S.S. Satputaley, HoD ME; Dr. A.R. Bhende, Academic Coordinator; Dr. V.C. Sontake, WS Incharge; Prof. P.J. Borle, Deputy WS Incharge; and Prof. M.K. Bhadke, Lab Incharge, Machine Shop.

Dr. V.C. Sontake outlined the consultation objectives and sought expert suggestions. Prof. R.B. Gowardhan stressed the importance of modernizing the workshop and enhancing safety practices. The delegation toured the workshop, reviewing the layout and machinery.

Mr. Sanjeev Gour emphasized the need for safety practices and proposed safety training for students, offering to conduct a seminar on safety standards. Mr. Praveen Singh invited faculty to visit the CEAT Tyres plant and suggested a visit to the Mahindra & Mahindra Training Center. Both recommended improving daylight in the workshop with transparent roof sheets and natural ventilators.

The delegation suggested additional industry visits before finalizing the workshop layout and advised retaining existing machines for teaching fundamentals, deeming scrapping unnecessary. They agreed to provide further expert advice and recommended a step-by-step approach to modernization.
