E-Formula Ashwariders at Formula Bharat 2024

Our participation in the electrical category at Formula Bharat 2024 marked our team's second onsite event, having previously engaged in one virtual event and one onsite event. Led by Captain Achal Dehankar, Power Train Head Prakash Khobragade, Mechanical Head Pratik Raulkar, and Electronics Head Sanskruti Khobragade, our team comprised 21 members from different branches.

This year, we showcased our second legacy vehicle, Tarkshya, featuring an in-house-built battery pack. Unique challenges emerged, with a focus on safety by the technical inspector. Despite these hurdles, we successfully navigated through complexities, securing an AIR 19 out of 45 teams.

Formula Bharat 2024 unfolded over six days, from January 19th to 25th, at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The event provided invaluable learning and growth opportunities for our team, contributing to an overall increase in knowledge and skills.

The onsite event commenced on January 19th, with registration for all EV teams at 8 am. Following team member registrations, I-Cards, and bands distribution, the Electric System Officer (ESO) received designated bands. Divided into two groups, one focused on high voltage work, while the other handled mechanical work in the pit area. The team efficiently set up the assigned pit, and the accumulator inspection began at 2 pm. Safety briefings and wire connection preparations followed, leading to the completion of the first day's activities.

On Day 1, the team started with an address from the captain, followed by Faculty Advisor registration and driver bands distribution. The team queued up for the demanding Pre-Technical Inspection, successfully completing it. Electric and mechanical technical inspections, along with the accumulator inspection attempts, highlighted the team's resilience.

Day 2 proved hectic, with the team gearing up for the Low Voltage Scrutiny, lasting three and a half hours. Numerous adjustments were recommended, emphasizing safety. Despite challenges, the team verified all wiring, completing the Electric Technical Inspection. Mechanical Technical Inspection recommendations were addressed, and the day concluded at 6:00 pm.

Day 3 involved addressing necessary changes and attempts at inspections, with the team split into two groups. Suggestions during the accumulator inspection prompted changes, reflecting the team's determination.

Day 4 presented challenges, emphasizing the importance of time management. Despite hurdles, the team showcased resilience, making necessary modifications and surpassing achievements from the previous year.

On Day 5, none of the electric teams passed the technical inspection for the endurance event. Our pit received appreciation for car management and innovative designs. Judges and inspectors provided valuable input, fostering networking opportunities. The day concluded with team photographs and the exchange of team stickers. Altair's increased cash sponsorship marked a significant milestone, and the team was invited to the podium for a felicitation ceremony. This year's Formula Bharat was a journey filled with impactful events, life-remembered lessons, and a sense of accomplishment for the team.

This recognition highlighted not just our success but also the value that Altair placed on our team's contributions and potential. In addition to Altair's support, we also received a significant contribution from PCB Power, amounting to Rs 15,000. This additional sponsorship from PCB Power stands as another substantial accomplishment, further strengthening our financial foundation for the competition. Further, Bender has contributed significantly to our effort by providing an Insulating Monitoring Device (IMD) worth 60,000. This support from them has played a crucial role in enhancing our resources and capabilities for the competition. These sponsorships from both Altair and PCB Power not only served as a financial boost but also as a validation of our team's capabilities and dedication. As we move forward, these achievements will undoubtedly inspire us to continue striving for excellence in future competitions.

Out of 45 electric teams nationwide, Team E-Formula Ashwariders achieved an impressive AIR 19 overall. The onsite event proved to be an exhilarating experience for the entire team, particularly in overcoming the challenge of the in-house manufactured 'Accumulator container.' Successfully passing the technical inspection filled the entire crew with pride for navigating the challenging onsite event.
